WHO Collaborating Centre for Research and Training in Child and Neonatal Health
The WHO Collaborating Centre for Research and Training in Child and Neonatal Health at Melbourne Children’s Global Health is dedicated to addressing global inequities in child mortality and supporting countries in achieving their Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to child health.
Our multidisciplinary team of experts engages in basic, clinical, and field research, epidemiology, health policy, education, and capacity building. Our work spans a wide range of child health issues, including:
-
Vaccine-preventable diseases
-
Pneumonia and tuberculosis
-
Neonatal health conditions
-
Group A streptococcus and related diseases such as scabies, impetigo, and rheumatic heart disease
We focus on strengthening health systems, enhancing quality of care for children and newborns, expanding health education, and promoting equity in access and outcomes.
Supporting Global Health Standards
As a WHO Collaborating Centre, we have played a key role in the development and implementation of the Hospital Care for Children guidelines—a comprehensive program aimed at improving care for children at first-referral level health facilities. Our contributions extend to other evidence-based clinical and public health guidelines, shaping best practices around the world.
Global Leadership and Advocacy
Our researchers actively contribute to global child health through advice, leadership, training, and advocacy, serving on a range of international and national health committees, organisations, and advisory bodies. Through these roles, we help shape the global child and neonatal health agenda and support lasting impact.
